Augusta County Chronology Augusta was created from Orange County, VA in 1738. Augusta while not fully organized, remained attached to Orange. West Augusta District was created by Virginia from Augusta in 1773. West Augusta District overlapped territory claimed by Pennsylvania. West Augusta District was abolished by Virginia upon the creation of Monongalia, Ohio and Yohogania County, VA from West Augusta District and Hampshire, VA in 1776.
