1776, Apr 1 - Militia Duty: Jesse Ellis, Holiday's Cove Fort

Excerpt from deposition given by Jesse Ellis before court of Adams County, OH for obtaining Revolutionary War pension on 11 Aug 1835:

State of Ohio }
Adams County }

On this 11th day of August in the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight hundred and thirtyfive personally appeared in open Court Before the Common please court of Said County of Adams and State of Ohio now sitting Jesse Ellis Resident of Said County and State in the Seventyninth year of his age who being Duly Sworn According to Law doth on his oath make the following Statement or Declaration in order to to obtain the Benefit of the act of Congress passed June 7th 1832 That he entered the Service of the United States as follows In the year Seventeen hundred and Seventysix he volunteered as a soldier of Captain Robert Jackman.s Company of Militia then of Virginia Brooks County, And performed a Tour of Duty of Six month under the command of Captain Richey and Ensign Ebinezer Corn and Rendevoused at the fort Holidays Cove on the Bank of the Ohio River in Brook County We were kept there at that fort as Gards of Said fort and in Defence of the family.s in Said fort the family.s who was forted in said fort was Harman Greathouse and family Ezekial Barnett & family Capt. Richey & family and several others now not recollected We remained at said fort Holadays Cove Six month I entered this Six month Tour of Duty the first day April in the Seventeen hundred and Seventysix and was discharged the fourth day of October following And a few Days Before we was Discharged And the Cause of Our Being Discharged Such to Captain Mathew Richey.s Company A Company of Virginia Troops Raised on Pattersons Creek as We understood and was Discharged a Day or Tow after their Arrival.
