Northampton County Chronology Northampton County was created from Bucks and Non-County Area 1 in 1752. Northampton lost to the creation of Northumberland in 1772. Northampton overlapped Litchfield, CT when Connecticut asserted its charter claim to northeastern Pennsylvania in 1774. Northampton overlapped Westmoreland, CT, which replaced Litchfield, CT in 1776. Northampton's overlap by Westmoreland, CT ended when Congress ruled in favor of Pennsylvania's claim to area in 1782. Boundary between Northampton and Luzerne was clarified in 1795. Northampton lost to creation of Wayne in 1798. Northampton lost to creation of Schuylkill in 1822. Northampton lost to creation of Lehigh in 1812. Northampton lost to creation of Monroe in 1836.
