James McDadeRevolutionary War Pension Application VA S38193 VA No. 7181 James McDade enlisted in Hampshire County, Virginia and served as a private in the 2nd Virginia Brigade and the 8th Virginia Regiment. He served with Captain William Voss of the 12th Virginia regiment under Colonel Wood in General Scott's Brigade. He took part in engagements at Trenton, Brandywine, Germantown, Monmouth, Eutaw Springs and Camden. At Eutaw Springs he received a bayonet thrust through the body and a sword wound on the wrist. At Camden he received a bullet wound in the ankle which rendered him unfit for service. He served 3 years. James McDade's application for pension states that he was discharged at Philadelphia in the State of Pennsylvania after which discharge he substituted in place of Uriah Gandee for the eighteen months and served under Captain David Williams of the County of Hampshire and in the Regiment Commanded by Colonel. Campbell. James McDade received a pension in the amount of $96 per year beginning on March 5, 1819 in Mason County, Virginia. He received a total of $1435.09 and died on July 30, 1833 at age 86.
